Behind the song

When I lived in London, I was fascinated by the strange contradiction of city life: being surrounded by people, yet feeling utterly anonymous. Every face in the crowd holds an entire world of stories, loves, losses and dreams. It can be so very lonely. It can also be extraordinarily freeing.

That feeling stayed with me and eventually became City of Spirits.

This song takes me somewhere a little different musically: cinematic, melancholy and a bit fierce, with soaring layers of vocals, piano, cello, synths and electric guitar. Produced with Ben Haynes, it explores the loneliness and freedom of disappearing into a crowd.

City of Spirits is the third song from my four-track EP Equipoise, arriving November 6, 2026.

Songs of earth, shadow, starlight and transformation.
